Although the “Nightlife” expansion pack for Sims 3 has made a comeback in the Sims 4 game pack “City Living” with apartments and events, the game pack “Get Famous” for Sims 4 has officially brought back celebrity status for sims. Comparing “Nightlife” to “Get Famous”, there are some major features that have never been seen before in the Sims 3 expansion pack.

Nightlife vs. Get Famous

Sims 3 Nightlife

The expansion for Sims 3 “Nightlife” introduced celebrity status for the first time to sims, allowing sims to gain celebrity points for careers like film, music, and even performer careers. Sims can also work their way to stardom by being recognized for specific talents or by simply gaining a relationship with a known celebrity. Sim celebrities definitely have their advantages in the world by being able to get into any club, bar, or lounge without being rejected, gaining the attention of the public, and being offered deals that entail lots of simoleans. There are some drawbacks to this celebrity lifestyle such as paparazzi following you everywhere and your sim’s choices and actions being displayed to the public everyday of their lives. Your sim can receive backlash from the media for actions like cheating, having a baby out of wedlock, having a romantic interest for a supernatural sim (comes with the Sims 3 “Supernatural” expansion pack), getting arrested, and more embarrassing actions.

Sims 4 Get Famous

The Sims 4 “Get Famous” game pack returns the celebrity lifestyle to sims and gives more to make sims live the full celebrity experience. Sims can now gain fame for more careers like acting, becoming an online influencer, or being apart of of a “glamour squad”. In the acting career branch, a sim can work their way to stardom by doing gigs to gain celebrity points, which was originally only seen in the performer careers in the Sims 3 “Showtime”. What’s also unique about these new careers is that careers like becoming an influencer or stylist allow sims with no background in music or acting to reach their way to stardom. “Get Famous” also includes features like a skills overview chart, similar to the Sims 4 “Vampires”, that allows sims at each celebrity level to choose skillsets that will benefit their career but also contain some drawbacks with each decision. The game pack also allows celebrities to have more interaction with non celebrity sims by allowing non celebrity sims to get involved or stir up celebrity drama.

Thoughts

I think the Sims 4 “Get Famous” is a great game pack overall. The newer features that are introduced in this game pack seem to bring reality of stardom into the game with more impact of the media and the ability for sims to gain “clout” from influencer roles. I wish I would’ve seen the game return hotspots from the Sims 3 “Nightlife”. I expected to this with the release of Sims 4 “City Living” since “City Living” includes apartments and town events that were originally seen in “Nightlife”, but it was more disappointing not to see this return to “Get Famous”. I think the hotspot areas from “Nightlife” brought more attraction for sims especially with the appearance of celebrities. Overall, I don’t think the “Get Famous” game pack is terrible. I’m actually in favor with EA for separating some of the features in “Nightlife” into the “City Living” and “Get Famous” game packs. I feel like the choice of including apartments in “City Living” put more of a focus on the visuals for the “Get Famous” map, giving the world a kind of “Hollywood ” vibe. Do you like the “Get Famous” game pack? Or are you in favor of the “Nightlife” expansion pack? Share your thoughts.
