For this project, I created a product story to highlight and market all the best features of a product threw a storyline animation. In this animation, I demonstrate how the JOTO Waterproof Phone Pouch is a great waterproof accessory through durability, resistance, and security with the help of our characters Rebecca and Marvin.

Rebecca and Marvin are siblings who plan a getaway kayaking trip together. Rebecca is excited for this trip and can’t wait to use the new waterproof phone accessory she has bought off of Amazon. When Rebecca tries out her new phone accessory, she’s impressed by the product’s quality and features. Eventually, their kayaking trip is interrupted by a brutal thunderstorm that causes chaos while the two siblings kayak down the river.. The story highlights how the product benefited Rebecca in this scenario unlike her brother Marvin and how the product can be used as a life saving tool.

Story Writing Process

In the beginning of writing the story, I came up with a very short story of how the product could be used to show the user’s goal, user interface, user experience, and the conflict also referred to as the “McGuffin”. At first the story never included Rebecca’s brother Marvin. The story was about Rebecca going on a kayaking trip with her family being mentioned as background characters, but not the focus of the story. Everything else about the story has stayed consistent since the beginning iterations except for the ending. The story originally had a more dramatic twist:

Product Story Origin

I then created a story structure, highlighting the main points of the story and determing what kind of product story this is.

Creating the Main Character

Next in the story writing process, I came up with some personality traits to better define the main character of my product story, Rebecca. To do this, I came up with a user persona and journey map that I modeled off of a friend that fits the character of Rebecca.

I then wrote my story out in a narrative form, creating a script and refining my product story. I realized at this point I wanted to add another secondary character and take out Rebecca’s family, which is where Marvin comes in. I won’t make you read the script, but if you’d like to i’ll attach it below:

I then created a storyboard based on my written script to try and visualize the story. This helped me get an idea on how I wanted to exactly design and plan out my animation, and as a result, the animation was completed:
